ADSENSE BEST WAY+TIPS AND TRICKS FOR CODE PLACEMENT

So you have your own
webpages with Adsense
now. You might even have
actual traffic going to
them, and you might even
have people clicking a link
or two here and there.
You're pretty proud of
yourself, especially after
seeing your first 2-dollar
day, or your first day of
having more than just a
0.5% CTR. You've got just
enough ads; not too many,
so that your CPC/CPM isn't
totally shot, but not too
few, so that your ads are
not getting completely
skipped over by your loyal
readership. After all, if
people don't even notice
your ads, nobody is ever
going to click them.
However, you're not having
consistent results
compared to what you
might expect from the type
of traffic your websites get.
Your have no idea why not,
as your ad units seem (at
least to you) to be well
placed, blended well with
the content, and even
showing fairly relevant ads.
But you might be putting
your ads in all of the
wrong places on your
website, without even
knowing it.
The Adsense Punk: Your
FREE guide to
dramatically increasing
your Adsense income
First of all, here's where
NOT to put your ads. One
of the worst places where I
see ads, yet one of the
most common, are ads put
on the far right side of the
page. I even see people
who write Adsense articles
recommending this, but if
they had done their ad-
targeting homework, I
figure they would be
singing a FAR different
tune. Ad-towers at the far
right side of the page (or
any kind of ad at the far
right side of the page,
except MAYBE text links),
are a crappy idea. They're
possibly the single most
useless ad you can put on
your page. Your CTR from
that particular ad unit will
be shot, because these ads
are very easy to just ignore,
and even if you, by some
fluke, get any kind of CTR,
your clicks will likely be
worth crap, since likely, it
will be the last ad unit in
your HTML.
Another bad place to put
ads: At the very bottom of
the page. It's not AS lousy
as the right side of the
page, but the CTR has
never been there for me,
and your clicks will likely
be even more worthless
than those on the right
side of your page. The
majority of the visitors to
your page will never scroll
down that far.
Another bad place, though
I rarely see this (but still do
see it sometimes) is at the
top of the page, ABOVE
the title. Nobody notices
anything that's above the
title/header of the page.
Don't put your ad units
above the title of the page
- even though what few
clicks you will get will be
worth a lot of money, you
will get very few of them.
So where are the best
locations to put your ads?
There are three, but in my
opinion, there are only two
that really matter.
The first worthwhile place
to put your ads: between
the header and the
content. This is what is
known as "above the fold",
meaning that it's on the
top area of the page, right
where users can see it
when they first come to
the page. The more users
see the ads, the more users
click the ads - it's simple
math. This will likely be
your highest CPC area, too,
since it's an area early in
the page's HTML.
The second worthwhile
place to put your ads: in
the middle of the content.
Either stick it right in
between (for example) one
section and another, near
the upper half of the page,
or stick it on the left side
of the content (right side is
not worth as many clicks,
being as you read English/
Spanish/French/most other
languages, from right to
left). Users will read
automatically FROM left to
right., so they will more
likely see the ads. Ads that
are mixed in with the
content are a huge read-
magnet and click-magnet,
and unless you put them in
a spammy way, they
shouldn't cause your
readers to bounce from
the page, thinking it's
spammy.
So how do you find the
balance between spammy
and visible ads? Use the
following rule: usually, if
your gut tells you it might
look spammy, it's spammy.
Happy adsensing!
